Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP):
This program is for skilled trades workers who want to immigrate to Canada permanently. To be eligible, applicants must have a valid job offer or a certificate of qualification in a skilled trade, meet the language proficiency requirements, and have at least two years of work experience in the skilled trade (some exceptions apply, as always).
Canadian Experience Class (CEC):
This program is for individuals with at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada who want to immigrate to Canada permanently. To be eligible, applicants must meet the language proficiency requirements, have at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada (or an equivalent of two years if the work experience is part time), and have gained their work experience while in legal status in Canada.
Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs):
PNPs are immigration programs offered by Canadian provinces and territories to nominate skilled workers for permanent residency who meet their local labor market needs. Each province or territory has its own PNP with specific eligibility criteria that changes depending on the provinces’ needs.
Express Entry:
Express Entry is an online application management system that manages applications for the FSWP, FSTP, and CEC. Applicants can create an online profile and submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) indicating their interest in immigrating to Canada. If they meet the eligibility requirements and are selected from the Express Entry pool, they may be invited to apply for permanent residency through one of the programs.
